AVIA, a frontrunner in healthcare digital transformation, unveils the six-month milestones of its Generative AI Strategic Collaborative, marking a significant stride in advancing Gen AI adoption in healthcare. This pioneering initiative, supported by 29 leading health systems and industry partners, including the American Hospital Association and the Children’s Hospital Association, aims to accelerate the safe and effective integration of healthcare AI.
Empowering Collaboration and Innovation
Launched in the summer of 2023, the AVIA Generative AI Strategic Collaborative brought together key stakeholders and expert speakers, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. With insights from over 170 stakeholders and 29 health systems, the collaborative developed 32 published use cases and five comprehensive frameworks, including the TRUSTED Framework, to guide ethical and effective AI utilization.
“Generative AI is a powerful but still nascent technology… to truly harness its potential,” said Linda Finkel, CEO of AVIA.
Enhanced Confidence and Governance
A survey conducted at the Generative AI Action Forum revealed a remarkable 95% increase in participating health systems’ confidence to act with AI since the collaborative’s inception. Furthermore, there was a significant 44% rise in the establishment of formalized AI governance structures, highlighting the impact and efficacy of the program in driving confidence and accountability in AI adoption.
“The opportunities for learning and collaboration have been significant,” said Eric Smith, SVP and Chief Digital Officer at Memorial Hermann Health System.
Driving Transformational Change
The collaborative’s focus on responsible and ethical AI integration has positioned healthcare systems to drive meaningful innovation and enhance patient care. By leveraging Gen AI capabilities, participants, including Providence, MedStar Health, and Cedars-Sinai, are pioneering transformative initiatives to advance healthcare delivery and outcomes.
“Participating in AVIA’s Generative AI Strategic Collaborative… helped Children’s Mercy make concrete steps toward embracing the transformative potential of generative AI,” said Rob Steele, MD, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer for Children’s Mercy Kansas City.
Continuing the Journey
While phase 1 concludes, AVIA prepares to unveil Generative AI Strategic Collaborative 2.0, building upon the foundational work of the initial collaborative. This next phase will delve deeper into use cases, solutions, and actionable insights to drive AI-driven capabilities further. Additionally, an accelerator program will onboard new participants, ensuring continuity and progress in Gen AI adoption.
Conclusion
AVIA’s Generative AI Strategic Collaborative has heralded a new era in healthcare innovation, paving the way for the safe and impactful integration of Gen AI. With a commitment to collaboration, ethics, and transformative change, AVIA and its partners are shaping the future of healthcare through responsible AI adoption and driving meaningful improvements in patient care and outcomes.
