ScorePlay Raises $13M to Make the Future of Sports Media Instant

Our goal is to ensure organizations can seamlessly license their content and maximize their revenue potential.

Sports media is not how it was before. Fans expect highlights in real time, leagues juggle multiple platforms, and teams are no longer just competing on the field but in the content game as well. Yet, many organizations still rely on outdated, fragmented systems to manage their media. That’s where ScorePlay comes in.

“Sports teams have seen a meteoric rise over the past 20 years, but their media infrastructures just haven’t been able to keep up – they’re still using Google Drive, Dropbox and WhatsApp.

We saw that gap grow so we went directly to the end-user and co-constructed a tech solution made for the sports industry. ScorePlay is built by and for sports organizations, which is one of the main reasons it has been hugely successful.” says Victorien Tixier, CEO of ScorePlay.

The AI-driven sports media platform just secured a $13 million Series A round, with backing from some big names: Alexis Ohanian’s Seven Seven Six, NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo, former Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg, and soccer legend Alex Morgan. Venture capitalist Harry Stebbings’ 20VC led the round, alongside continued support from previous investors like Kevin Durant and Eli Manning. With this new funding, ScorePlay is looking to scale its AI-powered media infrastructure, which is already used by more than 200 sports organizations worldwide.

Why ScorePlay Matters

The way sports media is produced and distributed has shifted dramatically. Teams and leagues aren’t just playing the game, they are also running their own media operations, competing for attention in an era of short-form clips, live updates, and digital-first audiences. ScorePlay’s AI-powered platform automates the tagging, organizing, and distribution of sports content, making it easier for organizations to get their highlights out quickly and efficiently.

Alexis Ohanian, who owns teams in the NWSL, TGL golf, and the new track league, Athlos not only invested but also used ScorePlay. He credits ScorePlay for helping his teams stay ahead in the content game.

“So many people ask how we’ve been able to have so much success in emerging sports across so many different leagues, and ScorePlay is at the heart of that,” Ohanian told CNBC. “They’ve just continued to execute above expectations, and I’ve been very happy to keep putting millions of dollars at work in every single round since.”

ScorePlay’s reach extends across major U.S. and European sports leagues, including NBA and NHL teams, Premier League and LaLiga clubs, and federations across basketball, volleyball, and skiing. The platform has maintained a perfect client retention rate since launching in 2021, a sign that once teams start using it, they stick with it.

In just two years, ScorePlay saw explosive growth, with revenue surging tenfold in 2022 and over 120 sports organizations adopting its platform. Today, more than 10,000 athletes including stars like Lionel Messi, Alex Morgan, Declan Rice, and Megan Rapinoe automatically receive their personalized content through the ScorePlay Athlete App, giving them control over their personal branding.

Fast Content, Smarter Storage

One of ScorePlay’s biggest selling points is its ability to distribute content instantly across multiple platforms—from team social media accounts to athlete pages, broadcasters, and sponsors.

“The idea is to maximize distribution, not just on your own channels, but also through your athletes, who are your best storytellers,” said Victorien Tixier, ScorePlay’s co-founder and CEO.

Speed is everything in sports media. Harry Stebbings of 20VC emphasized how teams and players are shifting toward producing their own content, making tools like ScorePlay essential.

“Speed is crucial in sports media,” Stebbings said. “The ability to share highlights within an hour keeps teams relevant in a fast-paced news cycle.”

Beyond speed, ScorePlay is addressing a long-standing challenge in sports media: balancing cloud and on-premise storage. Traditional storage solutions force teams to choose between flexibility (cloud) and control (on-premise). ScorePlay’s new “Agent” feature combines both, offering high-speed, broadcast-quality content access while maintaining security and reliability.

How the Agent Feature Works

The Agent feature enables teams to sync files between cloud and on-premise storage without compromising speed or quality. This means that whether footage is stored locally or in the cloud, it’s always accessible and organized.

  • Intelligent Storage – Files sync seamlessly between cloud and on-premise storage, ensuring easy navigation across all assets.
  • Broadcast-Quality Assurance – Teams can maintain high-quality live feeds and VOD content, no matter where they are accessed.
  • Real-Time Clipping – Users can clip and edit highlights in high resolution, even if the original files are stored on-premise.
  • Cost Efficiency – Reduces cloud storage costs while keeping the flexibility of cloud-based solutions.

For organizations handling massive amounts of media, this hybrid approach eliminates the trade-offs that come with choosing between cloud or on-premise storage.

“We listened carefully to our partners who struggled with these trade-offs,” said ScorePlay CTO Xavier Green. “Our team developed a system that not only preserves but enhances existing workflows.”

With threefold year-over-year growth, profitability, and a total of $20 million in funding, ScorePlay is expanding and introducing a new way sports organizations handle media.

The platform has evolved beyond just a digital asset management (DAM) tool, now offering a comprehensive media management system with content production, live broadcast integrations, and automated distribution features. Its rebranding reflects this growth, now offering three platforms:

  • Creator – A DAM for organizing and distributing content.
  • Studio – Adds media asset management (MAM) capabilities.
  • Pulse – Includes all previous features, plus advanced project and production asset management (PAM) tools.

While ScorePlay’s primary focus has been content organization and speed, it’s also doubling down on monetization. The company is building out tools for organizations to license and track their media assets, helping teams generate new revenue streams through digital rights management and automated licensing.

“We’re continuously working on developing the ultimate media infrastructure,” said Tixier. “Our goal is to ensure organizations can seamlessly license their content and maximize their revenue potential.”

With a growing roster of top-tier investors, successful operations, and a quickly expanding client base, ScorePlay is establishing itself as the go-to AI-powered media infrastructure for sports clubs around the world.

As sports media shifts towards real-time interaction and athlete-driven content, the need for smarter, faster, and more efficient media management solutions will grow.
