Cohesity, a leader in AI-powered data security and management, today announced a significant collaboration with Intel to integrate Intel’s confidential computing capabilities into the Cohesity Data Cloud. This collaboration is set to revolutionize data-in-use encryption, marking a first in the data management industry with the introduction of this technology in Cohesity’s Fort Knox, the leading cyber vault service.
Addressing a Critical Cybersecurity Challenge
The partnership between Cohesity and Intel tackles a pressing issue faced by CIOs concerning the protection of data while it is being processed in memory—a scenario where data traditionally remains unencrypted and vulnerable to insider threats. Utilizing Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX), this new initiative will empower Cohesity customers, particularly those in highly regulated sectors such as finance, healthcare, and government, to significantly lower the risk of unauthorized access to sensitive data during processing.
Key Features of the Cohesity-Intel Collaboration
Hardware-Secure Encryption Keys: The initiative will safeguard customer data encryption keys within a hardware-secured environment, leveraging Intel SGX for confidential computing in cloud settings. This approach notably diminishes the risk of data exfiltration by ensuring data remains encrypted and inaccessible to privileged accounts during processing.
Verification through Intel® Trust Authority: Customers will be able to verify the authenticity and security of their Intel SGX, ensuring it runs only the designated Cohesity application with the latest security patches before releasing the data encryption key.
Sanjay Poonen, CEO and President of Cohesity, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and collaboration with leading tech giants like Intel to enhance global enterprise resilience. He highlighted the benefits of Intel SGX, Intel Trust Authority, and confidential computing in reducing risk and bolstering security in cloud environments.
Greg Lavender, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Intel Corporation, acknowledged Intel’s leadership in confidential computing technologies. He underlined Cohesity’s adoption of Intel technology as a testament to the increasing demand for secure cloud data protection, advancing the shared objective of delivering secure computing environments.
Cohesity Showcases at Intel Vision 2024
As a Bronze sponsor at Intel Vision 2024, Cohesity will engage attendees in the Experience Lounge (booth number 110), demonstrating the confidential computing capabilities enabled by Intel SGX in the Cohesity Data Cloud. Kit Beall, Cohesity’s chief revenue officer, will participate in a panel on the future of IoT infrastructure for Edge AI, highlighting the importance of secure, AI-powered data management and cyber resilience solutions.
