Superblocks Raises $60M for AI Agent That Builds Enterprise Applications

Clark is making it possible for enterprises to build secure applications.

“There are over 1 billion spreadsheet users and the majority of enterprise processes still run on Excel. Each of these users will become software builders with AI.” – Brad Menezes, CEO of Superblocks.

Internal app generation platform Superblocks just raised a $23 million Series A extension in a funding round that included participation from leading venture capital firms such as Greenoaks Capital, Meritech Capital, Spark Capital, and Kleiner Perkins, as well as several individual investors. These additional funds bring their total funding raised to $60M, with the goal of launching Clark, an AI agent built to generate internal enterprise apps.

In a blog post from Co-Founder and CEO Brad Menezes, he calls Clark their “biggest leap forward since we founded Superblocks”

Redefining Internal Software Development with Superblocks

Co-founded by Brad Menezes and Ran Ma, Superblocks is an enterprise software company on a mission to transform the way businesses build and maintain internal tools. This mission was in a way, born of their own experiences:

“As developers ourselves, my cofounder, Ran Ma, and I faced the pain of building internal tools over and over at every company we worked at, and came to realize that the fundamental building blocks are largely the same,” said Menezes in an interview on the launch of Superblocks in 2022.

With a platform that combines a fully managed service and a hybrid, self-hosted open-source model, Superblocks has since emerged to allow engineering and operations teams to develop secure, scalable internal applications quickly and without compromise.

Their latest breathrough in this effort is Clark.

A Better Question – What Can’t Clark Do?

According to Superblocks, Clark enables businesses to build production-grade internal applications and automations using natural language prompts. Clark leverages a collection of leading large language models (LLMs), each trained on a company’s unique enterprise context,  specifically its design systems and security standards.

It connects directly to company systems, data, and design standards, while generating traceable React code.

The use of React as the foundation for Clark applications further reduces complexity. React is widely used by front-end developers, open-source, and free from vendor lock-in. The language is “infinitely extensible,” Menezes notes, making it ideal for teams looking to customize and scale applications over time without being restricted by proprietary tools.

The launch blog post from Menezes states that Clark is designed to operate like a human internal tools team, with the capability to emulate QA testers, Security Ops, Designers, IT admins, and Engineers. Applications generated by Clark can be modified through natural language, visual editing, or coding.

Integrative to Address Security Vulnerabilities

According to a study, 62% of AI-generated software contains errors or security vulnerabilities. This is the primary problem that Clark is looking to solve.

What the Superblocks team is focused on is the risk associated with vibe coding. When AI-generated applications are built rapidly without proper IT oversight, this can result in shadow IT, security vulnerabilities, and compliance failures.

On what sets Clark apart from consumer vibe coding tools like Lovable, Replit and Bolt, Menezes in a LinkedIn post, cites Clark’s ability to build production ready internal apps that enforce an enterprise’s existing standards. For example, UIs generated using a company’s design system, integrations with private APIs and databases and security with audit logging.

The result is secure, accelerated app development

What’s next for Superblocks?

Superblocks plans to use the additional funding to scale its operations and accelerate product development, with a focus on doubling its current 50-person team, making key hires to strengthen their engineering and marketing departments.

On what Clark means for enterprises, Menezes writes: “There are over 1 billion spreadsheet users and the majority of enterprise processes still run on Excel. Each of these users will become software builders with AI. With the introduction of Clark on Superblocks, enterprises no longer have to choose between speed and governance to develop mission-critical enterprise apps to run their operations.”

Clark is currently in closed beta with applications open on their website.
