“What if you could try on balenciaga, prada, chanel for $0?,” said Emmy Thamakaison, a Doji private beta user
Meet Doji, an AI-driven fashion app that combines cutting-edge technology with personalised experiences to offer users a virtual shopping experience like never before.
This latest startup in the fashion industry lets the users create lifelike, personalised avatars for virtual try-ons. Doji, launched in 2024 by industry veterans Dorian Dargan (formerly of Meta and Apple) and Jim Winkens (formerly of Google DeepMind), is rapidly gaining popularity and disrupting the fashion industry.
Since then it has been actively rolling out features for its beta users and they are in love.
While some beta users called it their “digital twin,” some said that this dawns a new era of how people look at the online shopping experience.
AI-Powered Custom Avatars
Employing several images, a precise body model is constructed, thereby enhancing the online shopping experience with a heightened sense of personalisation. Users can create an AI avatar, who resembles them, creating a more realistic experience.
The simplicity of implementation, the fidelity of the visuals, and the precision of the generated model collectively operate effectively.
The user interface is straightforward, and notably, it facilitates purchase decisions and encourages the sharing of digitally trialed garments. It is conceivable that such Virtual try-on (VTO) technology will become a standard feature across significant retail and apparel websites.
Personalized Fashion Recommendations
Doji leverages AI to utilise user preferences, previous choices, and body measurements to suggest outfits that match their individual style. This just doesn’t stop with user preferences; it also tracks fashion trends and what style might next blow up the internet.
Users and stylists were most impressed by the realistic visualisation of clothing fit and drape, the simple and sleek user experience for easy browsing, and the potential for further personalisation, such as selecting favourite brands and styles.
The app, right after it launched secured $6 million in Series A funding led by Seven Seven Six, the venture capital firm co-founded by Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian. Other investors in the round included notable backers such as Y Combinator and angel investors in the fashion and AI space. As ecstatic as Ohanian was about this investment, he agreed on the fact that AI is finally ready to make online shopping feel “REAL.”
The hyper-realistic version that Doji created was by far the most spot-on feature any virtual try-on fashion platform has ever done.
The founders, who have backgrounds in AI and consumer goods, are reportedly fashion enthusiasts and have combined their expertise to create Doji, as reported by Business Insider.
“We started it with ourselves as users in mind,” Dargan said. “And I think that’s one of the reasons why it’s being well received, because it’s actually designed for people versus just to be technology.”
Doji has made continuous improvements to its platform, including an enhanced browsing UX, brand-specific product filtering, and expanded product selection, to elevate user experience. Additionally, the platform now facilitates easier styling of imported products and boasts faster app loading times.
Make Way For Fashion
Doji operates in the rapidly growing space of AI-powered virtual fashion try-ons, and it faces competition from several companies that are leveraging similar technology to transform the online shopping experience.
Some of the well known ones are Zeekit, 3DLook, which use AI and body scanning technology to offer accurate size and fit recommendations to consumers.
