The world is witnessing a transformation in how we communicate. With billions of calls made daily, the rise of conversational AI promises to handle an increasing share of these interactions. Yet, despite technological strides, one challenge remains persistent: reliability. For AI voice agents to truly integrate into industries like healthcare, law, and insurance—where compliance and accuracy are paramount—their reliability must match human expectations.
This is where Hamming AI steps in, bringing a novel approach to an industry grappling with inefficiencies. Backed by a $3.8 million seed funding round, the startup is set to automate the testing, monitoring, and governance of AI voice agents, alleviating the hurdles faced by teams deploying these systems.
The Problem with Voice AI Today
Despite their potential, AI voice systems come with significant reliability issues. Engineers often spend hours manually testing their agents, only to find that small changes in prompts, function calls, or models can lead to unpredictable behavior. Post-deployment, operations teams resort to reviewing thousands of calls to identify issues missed during manual testing. This not only slows down development cycles but also increases costs and risks of liability.
The process is tedious, akin to an endless game of whack-a-mole:
- Engineers manually call the AI to identify bugs.
- They tweak prompts or models and test again.
- Problems re-emerge in production, detected only when users complain.
- The cycle repeats, draining time and resources.
As industries become increasingly regulated to ensure ethical AI deployment, this fragmented approach is no longer tenable.
The Hamming Solution
Hamming AI offers a transformative approach by automating the most painful parts of the voice AI lifecycle. Their platform deploys AI-driven voice agents capable of simulating thousands of simultaneous test calls, mimicking real-world user interactions with remarkable accuracy. This ensures:
- Proactive Detection: Automated AI voice red-teaming identifies vulnerabilities before they surface.
- Real-Time Analytics: Comprehensive call analytics track user engagement and performance.
- Targeted Improvements: An intelligent flagging system pinpoints issues that need immediate attention.
For example, an AI-powered drive-through startup recently used Hamming to simulate thousands of phone orders, achieving an unprecedented 99.99% agent order accuracy. This level of precision showcases Hamming’s ability to enhance voice AI reliability at scale.
Industries like medicine, law, and real estate operate under strict compliance frameworks where inaccuracies can lead to severe repercussions. By automating testing and governance, Hamming AI aims to become the backbone of trust-focused AI strategies.
“”If 2024 was the year of the prototype, 2025 will be the year of reliability. Industries like medicine, law, insurance, and real estate are governed by compliance frameworks that govern how businesses interact and share information with their clients. As these regulations catch up to the realities of AI, automated testing will be a cornerstone to every long-term and trust-focused AI strategy.” the team asserts, envisioning a future where automated testing is no longer optional but foundational.
As Lauren Farleigh, Co-Founder and GP at Mischief, highlights:
“Conversational AI is advancing rapidly—but most testing and governance tools haven’t caught up to match developer needs and compliance realities. Hamming.ai will be foundational to ensuring this technology advances safely, as AI reshapes interactions between businesses and their customers.”
Meet the Founders
Hamming AI’s mission is rooted in the expertise of its co-founders, Sumanyu and Marius, who bring rich experience from their time at Citizen, Tesla, Anduril, and Spell (acquired by Reddit). At Citizen, Sumanyu helped quadruple the platform’s user base as Head of Data, while Marius drove data infrastructure development and played a pivotal role in scaling AI operations.
Their combined experience in trust and safety infrastructure laid the foundation for Hamming’s innovative platform.
The $3.8 million seed round, led by Mischief and supported by a stellar lineup of investors including Y Combinator, AI Grant, and Coalition Operators, reflects strong confidence in Hamming’s vision. The round also saw participation from industry veterans like Hiten Shah, Ran Makavy, and Max Kolysh, among others.
This funding will enable Hamming to expand its offerings and refine its solutions, ensuring that voice AI becomes not just functional but dependable.
